Heart disease and heart attacks
Heart disease is number one on the list of top morbidities and mortalities in the United States. More than 600,000 Americans die each year because of a cardiovascular disease. Over 720,000 Americans get heart attacks. Most of these heart attacks occur outside of a hospital. Because victims do not seek medical attention once their symptoms worsen, a lot of them get heart attacks while they are performing daily activities at home or out in public.
Heart disease, particularly coronary artery disease, is caused mainly by bad lifestyle choices. That means an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, and vices all contribute to the development different heart problems. Lifestyle choices are only difficult to change because habits are hard to break – this is why health education is such an integral part of our training programs.
Advanced CPR training
Advanced Cardiac Life Support is a two-day program that focuses on advanced medical management of cardiovascular emergencies. Medical management involves the use of medication, equipment, and other modalities typically found in a health care facility such as a hospital. Because medical management can only be performed by allied health professionals, only they can sign up for advanced training.
There are pre-requisites interested students need to complete before they can sign up for ACLS classes, specifically a training credential for Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers. There is a pre-test students need to pass as well.
Program details: 2 days – 16 hours, re-certification – 5 to 6 hours
Re-certification is available to students with ACLS certificates as well. Credentials expire after 24 months, and students are expected to get them renewed before they do. Expired certificates can no longer be renewed, and the rescuer has to take the ACLS program again.
